Understanding Subscribed, Unsubscribed, and Cleaned Contacts from MailChimp
MailChimp employs different status categories for contacts within your audience. It's crucial to understand these statuses when importing contacts to SalesNexus in order to manage your audience effectively.
Subscribed Contacts
- Definition: Subscribed contacts are individuals who have explicitly opted in to receive your emails. These contacts are active and will receive your campaigns.
- Importance: When importing contacts into SalesNexus, you should typically include only those marked as subscribed. Including unsubscribed or cleaned contacts could violate anti-spam regulations and harm your sender's reputation.
Unsubscribed Contacts
- Definition: Unsubscribed contacts are individuals who previously subscribed but have actively opted out of receiving further emails. MailChimp automatically excludes them from receiving your campaigns.
- Importance: It's crucial to respect their choice to unsubscribe. Including them in an import may result in sending unwanted emails, leading to complaints or a decline in engagement.
- Action: Exclude unsubscribed contacts from any import list or segment.
Cleaned Contacts
- Definition: Cleaned contacts are addresses that MailChimp has determined are undeliverable. This could be due to repeated bounces or other issues. MailChimp automatically excludes cleaned contacts from your campaigns.
- Importance: Including cleaned contacts in an import won't result in email delivery. It's essential to maintain a clean list to improve deliverability and engagement metrics.
- Action: Exclude cleaned contacts from your import as they won't receive your emails anyway.
Import Best Practices
- Segmentation: Utilize SalesNexus segmentation tools to group contacts based on their status (e.g., subscribed) before importing.
- Consent: Only import contacts who have explicitly agreed to receive your emails to comply with privacy regulations.
- Regular Maintenance: Periodically review and clean your lists to remove unsubscribed and cleaned contacts for better campaign performance.
